Announced late last year at Nokia World, the Lumia Black update is an additional software update exclusive to Lumias, bundled upon the Windows Phone Update 3/GDR3, which many users installed on their devices through Microsoft’s enthusiast program. The Update brings some useful features to Lumia owners, such as a new “App Folder” which allows users to pin folders containing multiple apps onto their homescreen. The update also brings improements to Glance screen, which now allows you to see notification on the “always on clock. The update also brings some performance upgrades to low-light imaging, especially on the Lumia 1020; it also enables the usage of some new Nokia apps such as storyteller, Beamer and is bundled in with Nokia Refocus. Most importantly, Lumia black brings Bluetooth LE support to most Lumia devices that didn’t already have it, so things such as car pairings should drain a lot less battery now.

The update should be rolling out to all WP8 Lumia devices world-wide; if you haven’t gotten a prompt about the update then head to settings > Phone Update > and manually check for an update.
