standard Microsoft Annouces Affordable “Nextbook” Tablet Lineup Starting from $180

IMG_0136Today Microsoft announced a new-lineup of affordable tablets in South Africa called “nextbook”. The new line-up has an 8″ variant and a 10.1″ model with a detachable keyboard (seen above).

The 8″ model which comes with an Intel ATOM quad core processor, 1 Gb of RAM and 16 GB of onboard storage; priced at a very attractive $180. The 10.1 model comes with the same Intel ATOM quad core processor along with 1 GB of RAM and 32 GBs of internal storage, priced at around $270. Both models can boost their storage up to 64 additional gigabytes via Micro SD.

Unfortunately given the low-key announcement of both these products, it’s unlikely that we’ll see them go mainstream outside of South Africa, but it’s a nice move by Microsoft to help invigorate the budget friendly tablet market  in the area.
