standard Microsoft to Replace Internet Explorer with “Spartan”, Lightweight Browser With Extension Support

halo_spartan_117_by_dimitri444Microsoft are reportedly working on a new replacement browser for Windows 10 (and Windows Phone). According to the rumors Microsoft want to replace Internet Explorer which has become associated with clunkiness and slow loading times.

However, if my sources are right, Spartan is not IE 12. Instead, Spartan is a new, light-weight browser Microsoft is building.

Windows 10 (at least the desktop version) will ship with both Spartan and IE 11, my sources say. IE 11 will be there for backward-compatibility’s sake. Spartan will be available for both desktop and mobile (phone/tablet) versions of Windows 10, sources say.

As the name “spartan” implies, the browser aims to be a lightweight and fast browser, providing a smooth browsing experience while also allowing add-on support such as in Chrome and Firefox. With Microsoft planning an event on january 21st to further discus Windows 10, it’s likely we might hear about this new browser. Either way yay for more halo references.
