While smart technology is nothing new, the pace at which it is being integrated into everyday living continues to grow at a considerable rate. This is being driven in part by technological advancement, which is expanding the range of smart devices available to home-owners around the world.
This is triggering a rise in demand and causing the number of smart devices on the consumer market to rocket. A recent survey conducted by Samsung confirmed this, with the results suggesting that the average UK household now owns an estimated 18 smart devices ranging from smartphones and tablets to more advanced appliances.
The survey, which question 18,000 European respondents, also revealed that the way in which we use some of these devices has changed in recent times. More specifically, app use on smartphones and tablets in the UK has soared in the last 12 months, doubling from 23% to 54% in the process. It is worth noting that many of these applications revolve around the home and domestic appliances, with remote technology now having advanced to the point where it can control physical entities in real-time.
In this respect, the survey has indirectly revealed how British citizens are increasingly reliant on smart and intuitive home appliances. Take the smart heating system Hive, for example, which is arguably the most advanced technology of its type and enables home-owners to control their heating remotely and in real-time. This not only lets them optimise the comfort levels in their home, but it also provides them with an opportunity to reduce energy consumption and all associated costs.
There are two key things to draw from this survey. The first is that smart technology continues to drive a more fluid and interconnected world, where the Internet of Things (IoT) bridges the gap between physical and virtual realms. This in turn enables citizens to enjoy a simpler and more efficient existence that is also cost-effective.
Beyond this, the prominence of smart technology also changes the typical expectations of potential buyers in the property market. This demographic is increasingly likely to prioritise homes with smart technology already integrated, meaning that those who want to sell house fast will need to embrace specific devices if they are to appeal to a broader market.
