Today, Microsoft announced via Facebook the official grand opening date for their first ever Microsoft Store in Australia. The store will be opening November 12, located in Pitt Street Mall in Sydney CBD, one of the busiest shopping districts in Australia, where they will be surrounded by major global brands such as Tag Heuer, Uniqlo and H&M.
The new store is the beginning of Microsoft’s retail expansion outside North America, putting them on a more equal footing with Apple when it comes to customer experience. For many buyers in Australia, having a Microsoft store will be their first exposure to products such as Microsoft Band and the new Lumia flagships that are launching later this year.
If the store is a success, it is natural to assume that Microsoft will continue to expand in the region, opening more stores first in Sydney, then in Melbourne, then potentially in to other markets such as Brisbane, and even New Zealand.
